Get rid of Woodpeckers in Castle Rock, Colorado

Some people joke about the moon being made of Swiss cheese, but what about your house looking like Swiss cheese? When your house becomes a target for woodpeckers, it is no laughing matter and people want to know how to get rid of woodpeckers before they are driven crazy by the noise or their house falls to pieces around them.

Deborah from the Castle Rock, Colorado is a great example. She contacted us at Allstate Woodpecker Control because the birds were attacking the cedar shingles on her house. She could guess that the birds might be looking for food or something, but when they also started hammering away at her metal gutters she became less sympathetic. Not only was her house full of holes, but a percussion band was practicing outside her bedroom window every morning starting about 6 a.m. She really wanted to know two things: 1. Why were the woodpeckers there in the first place? 2. How could she get rid of the woodpeckers?

I let her know that the birds were attacking these two parts of her house for two very different reasons. The first is survival. The shingles, being made of wood, were a target probably for the reason she had guessed: food. If that wasn't the reason then it probably was to search for and create a nesting site. The second reason these birds attack parts of homes is entertainment. Many homeowners do not agree, but the birds think they sound fine! They peck, or "drum," to announce their territory, attract a mate or just to enjoy the sound. This drumming does not always create holes and occurs on hollow or hollow sounding objects. Thus, the gutters. Synthetic stucco siding, chimney caps, swamp coolers and even antennas are also popular with birds.

Having settled the reasons why the birds were there, we moved on to how to get rid of woodpeckers. I was able to answer that question: you can get rid of woodpeckers by hiring us. We were able to inspect her property and recommend a complete woodpecker removal plan. Using deterrents and exclusion we were able to persuade the birds to move on to territory where they would be more welcome. Deborah had her home repaired and life returned to normal. No more Swiss Cheese shingles and percussion concerts for her.

We solve many types of wildlife control conflicts in Castle Rock and surrounding areas. Give us a call if you need expert animal removal and/or live wildlife trapping. We can also perform an inspection of your property to evaluate the problem.

Many of the projects we solve involve raccoon families in attics and chimneys, mud swallow nests on stucco, woodpeckers drilling siding, voles and gophers destroying lawns, rats or squirrels thumping and bumping around inside walls and in attics, bat infestations, skunks stealing pet food and snakes living in crawlspaces and stone walls.

Along with physical damage and disease, wild animals also bring along disturbance and nuisance with all their noise and commotion and smell. Baby raccoons chirp and chitter like little birds; raccoons and rats will fight all night and keep people awake; skunk smell takes the cake, but have you ever smelled a dead animal in your ventilation system? We have seen much, much more than these problems, but that is a general idea of the kinds of problems that my professional wildlife removal operators and I are prepared to solve.

Not only do my technicians and I trap and remove problem wild animals, we do a lot of other dirty work, too. Don't hesitate to call us for dead animal removal, pigeon waste cleanup, bat guano removal, mouse droppings, decontamination, repairs, above ground and below ground rodent slick fencing, odor control for skunk spray, and the like. We are a full service pest control company with a wide range of animal control solutions.

I have been in the professional wildlife control business for many years. My favorite stories and experiences are removing bats from schools and churches.

Woodpeckers near Castle Rock, Colorado

The Castle Rock and Douglas County areas of Colorado are abundant in wildlife: snakes, elk, bear, coyotes, owls and woodpeckers. Ratta-tat-tat-tat-tat! Yes, lots of woodpeckers. Ratta-tat-tat-tat-tat! And more woodpeckers. Ratta-tat-tat-tat-tat! They say these birds are endangered. Ratta-tat-tat-tat-tat! I think I know why! Sure makes you want to get rid of woodpeckers, doesn't it?

I have lived in Castle Rock for a while and have gotten used to a lot of things. I plan my commute taking into account the local elk herd. I keep a coffee can full of rocks for chasing off the coyotes. I hardly even notice the snakes anymore….well, at least mostly. But, when a woodpecker moved in and started practicing the drums on my house, it was a whole new chapter in the book of wildlife tolerance. The other animals tend to pass through. These birds stay, and drum, and drum, and drum. Time to get rid of woodpeckers.

Did you know you aren't supposed to kill woodpeckers? That's right. As I mentioned earlier, they are protected species and can't be harmed without an act of congress (almost literally).

The beasts also don't leave on their own. Oh, they might quiet down for a short period of time, but once a woodpecker has picked out and marked their special territory you can expect percussion daily.

The ratta-tat-tat-tat-tat that these birds makes resembles a gun—machine gun. Listening to it for very long makes even me want to get a gun and solve the problem. Makes me feel like watching some very hormonal movie and coming out of the house like something between Rambo and Eastwood. "Go ahead, get rid of the woodpeckers."
